About Blue Wave
Trading
One of the first automated trading software companies in the NinjaTrader ecosystem. Over two decades of building tools that give futures traders a real edge — from the original volatility-based algorithm to a full execution engine, indicator suite, and live trading community.
Blue Wave Trading was founded by Randy Sarrow — a securities industry veteran who spent 17 years as a financial advisor and money manager before discovering the emerging world of algorithmic trading in the late 1990s.
Randy had the rare combination of real market experience and technical curiosity. He consulted with floor traders, hedge fund managers, and institutional professionals to understand how the markets actually worked — then built software to give retail traders access to the same kind of precision.
The result was the BWT Precision AutoTrader — one of the first automated trading solutions available on NinjaTrader — built on a volatility-based algorithm that has stood the test of time for over two decades. That same core logic still powers BWT EdgeMax today.
A securities industry veteran turned algorithmic trading pioneer. Randy built BWT from Maui, Hawaii — creating professional-grade tools for retail traders long before it was an industry.
His background as a financial advisor gave him something most software developers lack: he understood what real traders needed because he'd been one himself, managing real money in real markets.
From a one-person operation in Hawaii to a full trading technology platform — here's how BWT got here.
Bigger Vision
When BWT Bob took over, the mission was clear: preserve the algorithms and engineering that made BWT trusted, and build everything around them that modern traders need. As a prop firm trader himself — actively managing millions in funded accounts — Bob doesn't build features based on guesswork. He builds what he needs to trade better, then ships it to everyone. The core volatility logic that Randy created still powers every EdgeMax signal module. What's changed is the infrastructure, the product ecosystem, and the commitment to treating traders like professionals — not marketing targets.
These aren't marketing slogans. They're the principles that guide every product decision, every support conversation, and every line of code.
Sophisticated futures traders see through fluff. We set realistic expectations, especially about automated trading — no "set it and forget it" promises. Your results depend on your work.
BWT was founded by a financial advisor who traded his own capital. It's now run by a prop firm trader managing $3.2M+ in funded accounts who built the software because he needed it himself. The trade room is moderated by a full-time trader. Everyone here has skin in the game.
In an industry where most vendors disappear within a few years, BWT has been shipping software since 1999. The core algorithm has survived every market regime for over two decades. That's not marketing — it's a track record.
Whether you're looking for automated execution, discretionary tools, professional indicators, or a live trading community — BWT has something built for how you trade.
