The Problem With Standard Charts

Time-Based Bars Lie

A 1-minute bar looks the same whether price moved 3 ticks or 30. A 5-minute bar during the opening rush looks identical to one during the dead zone at 2 PM. Time-based charts show you elapsed time — not market activity.

This creates a fundamental problem: the chart you're reading doesn't accurately represent what the market actually did. You're making decisions based on a distorted picture.

The most configurable Renko bar type available for NinjaTrader. Independently tune trend sensitivity, reversal threshold, and inter-bar spacing.

How it works

UniRenko's three-parameter design is what separates it from every other Renko variant. Trend controls how many ticks are needed to print a new continuation bar. Reversal sets how many ticks price must move against the current direction to print a reversal bar. Setting reversal larger than trend creates asymmetric behavior that naturally stays in trend longer. Offset — unique to UniRenko — controls the gap between bar closes and opens, filtering out additional chop that standard Renko misses.

Example configuration

T4 R8 O2 on ES: bars trend easily at 4 ticks, require a meaningful 8-tick reversal to change direction, and add a 2-tick gap between bars. The result is a chart that stays with the move and ignores minor counter-swings.

Super Renko

One Number.

The simplest, cleanest Renko variant. Set the brick size and every bar becomes exactly that many ticks tall — no exceptions, no complexity.

Brick Size Ticks per bar (uniform)

How it works

Super Renko produces perfectly uniform bars — every bar is exactly the specified brick size in ticks. When price moves that distance in either direction, a new bar prints. No partial bars, no ambiguity. The uniformity makes support and resistance levels and chart patterns exceptionally clear and visually consistent across sessions.

Why this matters

When every bar is the same size, pattern recognition becomes straightforward. You stop second-guessing bar formation and focus entirely on price behavior. Ideal for traders who want the noise-filtering benefits of Renko without the configuration overhead.

Precision Renko

Two Params.
Asymmetric Edge.

Bridges the gap between Super Renko's simplicity and UniRenko's full control. Percentage-based reversal makes asymmetric configuration intuitive.

How it works

Precision Renko adds a percentage-based reversal parameter to the standard brick size. A reversal percentage above 100% means reversals require a larger move than continuations — the same asymmetric behavior that makes UniRenko so effective at staying in trend, expressed as a simple percentage. At the default 132%, reversals require one-third more movement than continuations.

The sweet spot

If Super Renko feels too simple and UniRenko feels like too much to configure, Precision Renko is the answer. Two parameters, one obvious interpretation, and meaningful asymmetric trend behavior built in.

Line Break Candles

The only bar type in the suite that works on any NinjaTrader base period. Combines traditional Japanese Line Break logic with full period flexibility.

How it works

Line Break Candles combine Japanese Line Break logic — where a new bar only forms when price breaks beyond a set number of prior bars — with any NinjaTrader base period. A 3-line break on 1-minute bars only prints a new candle when the close exceeds the high or low of the last 3 bars. Everything in between is filtered out. The base period can be anything: minute, tick, volume, second, day, week, or month.

The unique advantage

Unlike the Renko variants which are pure tick-based, Line Break Candles can be anchored to any sampling interval — making them uniquely versatile across both scalping and swing timeframes. Use second-based for fast markets, daily-based for swing setups.
