Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue: “NinjaTrader hangs when starting strategy.”

Checklist:

Make sure you have Show Historical Trades turned off for normal trading. If that settings is on, the strategy has to calculate historical trades for every bar on your chart. It is easiest to turn it off in the NinjaTrader strategy settings.

 

You can also do it from the EdgeMax Config Panel.

Issue: “Strategy isn’t taking any trades”

Checklist:

  1. Are filters too restrictive? (Try disabling all except HTF)
  2. Is session time correct for your timezone?
  3. Are trading days selected?
  4. Is daily limit already hit?
  5. Check NinjaTrader log for errors
  6. Verify entry module is enabled (value = 1)
  7. Is there sufficient historical data loaded?

Issue: “Strategy taking trades I don’t expect”

Checklist:

  1. Review signal lookback settings (may be using old signal)
  2. Check if “Ignore Reversal Signals” should be enabled
  3. Verify all filters are enabled properly
  4. Look at NinjaTrader Output Window for filter status
  5. Enable visual indicators to see signals

Issue: “Stop loss isn’t moving to breakeven”

Checklist:

  1. Is Breakeven Stop checkbox enabled?
  2. Has profit reached the trigger level?
  3. Check breakeven trigger value (ticks or ATR)
  4. Look for errors in NinjaTrader log
  5. Verify TradeManagementEnabled = True

Issue: “Trailing stop not activating”

Checklist:

  1. Is TrailStopManagementEnabled = True?
  2. Has profit reached trail trigger level?
  3. Is trailing stop type set to “None”? (should be Bars, Ticks, etc.)
  4. Check trail trigger value
  5. Review NinjaTrader log
